QuickLearn Japanese Kana

Finally!

QL Japanese Kana has been released on Google Play.

The last months have been really intense and has seen major changes and improvements to the application overall. Fonts have been reviewed and replaced, main menu icons updated, loading screen added, more katakana examples included, in-app purchases implemented, tons of minor bug fixes, and so on, and so forth.

There are still lots of things to improve and new ideas to implement, but there is finally a version worth calling 1.0 🙂

Side Project – Egg Tracker

So here is whats happened with Egg Tracker: Google decided to suspend it from Google Play without any prior warning, claiming it violates their impersonation clause simply because the name contained “…for Pokemon GO”.

The appeal to get it reinstated has also been rejected.

Suspension is the worst action they can give an app (which I assumed would have been reserved for apps that actually DO try to impersonate others or steal their intellectual property, etc). It means a strike on the developer account as well as no option to rectify the issue. All stats, downloads, reviews, and so on lost.

Instead they suggest recreating all the store information and uploading a brand new application for review. With a new package name and a new application name.

This means existing users can no longer receive any updates to the old application. It also means existing users cannot migrate their database to the new version of the application, if one is created.

Anyone who wants an update for the 7km egg (with the ultra reward event giving regionals and tangela/porygon) can email egg@quicklearn.se and get the new APK to manually install it. If you (temporarily) enable “trust unknown sources” in the phone, it should be fine to install it directly from the email attachment.

The application has been updated to handle the new 7km regional hatches (during the current reward event).

HOWEVER, Google has decided to reject the update due to “impersonation” in the application metadata. Most probably they are unhappy with the “… for Pokemon GO” part of the application name.

Their support has been contacted, but as for now the update can’t be published unless the app is renamed…

Long time no update!

Well, at least no update on this page. The application has been going through lots of improvements, tweaks, code refactoring, bug fixes, and more 🙂 Most things are hopefully done now, unless anything unexpected shows up.

What remains to be done is mainly:

  • Finalizing Google Play store details, including screenshots and promotional graphics.
  • Adding (a bit) more content to several sections of the app. Not really requiring any big code changes, just more object definitions.
  • Getting in-app purchases completely done, which includes setting up  purchase verification server-sided code.
  • Final testing and publishing, especially regarding the IAP functionality.

As with all TODO lists, something more is bound to pop up, but things are getting there.

Side Project – Egg Tracker

A new version (1.7) of Egg Tracker for Pokemon GO has just been released on Google Play.

It contains the new 7km Alola eggs so you can continue to keep track of all your hatching. Please note that since these eggs are not received from stops and gyms, they will not count towards total and/or stop %s.

QuickLearn Japanese Kana

A lot of things are going on with QL Japanese Kana at the moment: the test and practise result views have been made more consistent, achievements are mostly in place, in-app billing library has been added (but not configured on the server side), the database has been updated to support notifications, tests can now be re-taken at once and loads of improvements and tweaks all over…

A new idea for a side project have come up as well: a stand alone fast-paced practise game with a single game mode where you need to give correct answers before you run out of time and the character reaches the bottom of the screen. Most of the current codebase and resources should be useful for such a game, so implementation time should be relatively low.

Quick update: loads of things are being polished and adjusted.

For instance, the study screen is undergoing some changes and improvements, and animations are now in place. Enhanced multi-resolution support is an ongoing work as well for most views.

Most new icons are in place now, and Google Play achievements are being created on the server side and integrated into the client.

Side Project – Egg Tracker

Double application updates for egg tracker today!

The new versions brings a localized information message at the first run (for people who have not read the application description), the possibility to add new Pokestops directly from the Handle Pokestops view and hatching rarity information.
